Once all necessary documents are received an application for a permit will be submitted.

**It is the responsibility of the homeowner to have submitted or submit any required documentation necessary to their homeowner’s association for approval prior to the start of construction.**

Construction Process: Text

Construction Process

Step 1 - Site visit with an initial consultation

  • During the initial consultation, you and your consultant will discuss options and features available for your backyard oasis.

  • A consultant will do a site assessment of your property. We will come out to your home to take some measurements and pictures necessary for completing your 3D design. At this point, we will also determine where the equipment will be located, how we will access the backyard with our equipment, and if there is anything in the way of construction.

Step 2  Design

  • Using the measurements and pictures from your initial meeting our designer will go over the placement of steps, benches, lights, tanning ledges, and other features. They will then use the latest 3D technology to create a detailed rendering of your dream pool.

  • During this step, you will work with our designer to pick materials and colors for your new pool. Your designer can assist with color selection and ideas.

Step 3 Review your design and quote

  • Once the final design is approved, an accurate quote will be put together. At this point, our designer will be available for you to go over the quote and details with you.

Step 4 Signing

  • After design details are discussed, it is now time to sign the agreement and other needed paperwork.

Step 5 Permitting

  • Your permit paperwork is submitted to the County office for permit review.

**It is the responsibility of the homeowner to have submitted or submit any required documentation necessary to their homeowner’s association for approval prior to the start of construction. It will be the responsibility of the homeowner to have utilities marked or flagged by contacting North Carolina Call before you dig.  Once the permit is approved.

**If for any reason these items are not taken care of prior to permitting approval, Mario Pools will not start the build until they have the proper clearance on the property.

Step 6 Pool layout and excavation

  • Our team will begin to layout the shape for the pool. This step is done to prepare for excavation.

  • Once the pool has been marked our crew will break ground and begin digging your new pool.

**Dirt will only be removed if prior arrangements have been made and only on the day of excavation.

**If you would like some dirt left on the property please indicate where and specify how much.

**If you change your mind after the Excavation Crew has left, there will be an extra charge for trucks and equipment to either remove additional unwanted dirt, or to bring back clean fill.

Step 7 Form and Steel

  • The elevation of the pool is set in this step. This important step will affect every step forward if done incorrectly. Mario Pools will be onsite with lasers to assure accuracy and triple check everything to make sure that the proper elevation is set and level.

  • Our team will use rebar to form the entire pool. Pre-plumbing will be done during this step as well.

Step 8 Shell

  • Your pool will start to really take shape in this step. The gunite or shotcrete is shot through a high pressure hose to strengthen the structural integrity of the shell. This will be left to cure while our team prepares for the next step.

  • During this time the material will be curing and it needs to be watered down at least 4 to 5 times a day for the first 7 days.

  • Spray the surface from outside the shell with water until it starts to run down the walls. It will most likely absorb the water like a sponge. But it will only absorb so much at a time so patience is key. Some water may accumulate at the end of the pool don't worry it will be pumped out and the shell will be cleaned prior to interior finish.

  • Once the material has cured form boards will be removed and plumbing will begin.

Step 9 Plumbing

  • The trenches for plumbing are dug with our mini excavator.

  • We dig at least  3’ down to make sure your plumbing is protected. The pipes are then run from your new pool to your designated pool equipment area and are pressurized to be sure there are no leaks and to pass county inspections.

  • Mario pools uses non-corrosive piping.

Step 10 Compacting

  • Once the plumbing has been completed the trenches are filled in to cover any exposed pipes.

  • The soil is also compacted to minimize shifting and to prevent any issues with your new deck,

Step 11 Tile and Coping

  • Our team will check the shell to make sure everything is level.

  • Each piece of coping and tile will be cut and individually handset.

Step 12 Footings

  • Footings are excavated on the perimeter of the deck to meet code.

Step 13 Deck and Outdoor living

  • There are many color options to choose from. Be sure to consult with your designer about materials offered and Outdoor living features such as

  • Outdoor kitchens

  • BBQ

  • Firepits/Fireplaces

  • Sitting areas

  • Pergolas

  • Cabanas

Step 14 Pool Equipment

  • Proper placement of equipment will be determined by you and the designer.

Step 15 Final Grade

  • The grade is done to local drainage standards.

Step 16 Safety Features

  • The state could require the installation of an alarm or safety fence.

  • Mario Pools makes safety a priority and makes sure the alarms are installed properly and passes county inspection.

  • The alarms will need to be on doors and windows exiting the home to the enclosed pool area or fence is installed.

Step 17 Interior Surface

  • The pool shell is treated, prepped with a waterproofing agent, and cleaned prior to installation of the interior finish. Decorations, and mosaics are placed during this step.

  • Mario Pools offers many color options for the interior as well as other customizations as well.

Step 18 Pool Fill

  • Your pool will receive one more wash treatment before being filled.

  • Once treatment is completed the pool will be filled. It is normal for the water to appear green for the first week,

Step 19 Startup

  • For approximately 30 days one of our maintenance team members will do a "soft start" and will add any needed chemicals to balance the water.

  • Once balanced our team will add the initial salt needed to turn on your pool's saltwater chlorinator.

  • A team member will schedule an appointment with you to go over pool operation and setup remote access to devices. Did we forget to mention our pools are automated and have app access for when you are away?

  • Customers will be provided with a Maintenance Kit which includes a telescopic pole, brush, and skimmer net.
